Fleet EForce Hosts First EV Safety Training Class at Pueblo Community College
Colorado, September 24th, 2024 — Fleet EForce Inc. is excited to announce the successful completion of its first Electric Vehicle (EV) Safety Training class, held at Pueblo Community College in Pueblo, CO. The event, which took place on June 18, 2024, was organized in partnership with Drive Clean Colorado and had 14 attendees from across Colorado’s Front Range, including representatives from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and seven from the Town of Breckenridge Fleet Shop.
The class focused on crucial safety protocols surrounding EV maintenance, beginning with in-depth instruction on NFPA 70E Arc Flash safety, which addresses the risks posed by electrical hazards, including thermal, concussive, and toxic air dangers during an ARC flash event. This training ensures that workers are equipped to identify and mitigate electrical hazards, a critical concern when handling exposed or damaged electrical circuits. Each participant earned NFPA 70E certification, which is required every three years or whenever significant changes occur in job duties or workplace equipment.
What makes Fleet EForce’s training unique is its tailored approach to EV-specific safety. The course not only covered the mandatory NFPA 70E material but also demonstrated how these hazards can arise in electric vehicles and EV chargers. The second half of the training class focused on EV-specific safety practices, such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures across multiple EV manufacturers, high-voltage system safety during maintenance and repair, and compliance with EV and charger safety standards. The course also delved into proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and maintenance for EV technicians, best practices for recovering electric vehicles, and implementing workplace electrical safety programs.
“This type of training is imperative for employees in environments where electric vehicles are operated or maintained, and where employees may interact with EV chargers, also known as Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE),” said Ben Schroder, COO of Fleet EForce and the class instructor. “We cannot guarantee that a technician or any employee working around EVs won’t encounter a hot circuit, but this one-day class provides them with a strong foundation in safety protocols.”
Fleet EForce looks forward to expanding its EV safety training programs, ensuring that more teams across the country can safely and effectively operate in an EV-driven world. Please contact us at for information on upcoming classes.
